Entry into Year 7

Entry into Year 7 is managed through the NSW Department of Education - High Performing Students Team. Applications open in October of each year (when the applicant is in Year 5). A state wide selective schools test is conducted in March of the following year. Important dates and more information about the selective school placement test can be found here.

Entry into Years 8 - 10

Applications for entry into Years 8-10 for 2026 have now closed. Applications for entry in 2027 will open mid June 2026.

Entry into Years 8-10 is limited with vacancies occurring only when a current student leaves the school. All applications are reviewed by a selection panel and a short list of twenty applications per year is established. When a place becomes available, selected candidates on the short list will be interviewed and a place offered. There is no entrance test for entry into Year 8 - 10.

Further information about how to apply can be found here.

Entry into Year 11

Applications for entry into Year 11 2026 are now closed. Applications for entry in 2027 will open in mid June 2026.

All applicants are required to submit an application as well as sit the Acer HAST (Higher Ability Selection Test). Fort Street High together with eleven other schools coordinate the sitting of the Acer HAST on the same day. When applying, applicants can list up to 3 schools as their preferences but need to sit the entrance test at the school that is their first preference. If the first preference school is  not  included in the list of schools doing the Acer HAST, the applicant would then sit the test at their second or third preference school - if that school is part of the same Acer HAST cluster.

Successful applicants will be invited to attend interviews depending on their Acer HAST results and merit of application.

Further information about how to apply can be found here.
